SUN SIYAM IRU FUSHI

REVIEW BY: MUMPACK TRAVEL

When seven-year-old Emmie declared our resort holiday at the Sun Siyam Iru Fushi to be ‘the best ever’ only two days into our trip, I knew we’d found our Maldivian paradise.

I’d been thinking the same thing – when you wake up and swim in your own beachfront pool, wander along white sandy paths to feast on a delicious breakfast and snorkel with turtles all before 11am you know you’re onto a good thing.

Just an hours’ seaplane ride from Male and nestled in the Maldives’ famous aqua water, this resort is perfect for a fabulous family getaway.

For us, the Sun Siyam Iru Fushi ticks all the family holiday must-have boxes. There has to be a fabulous beach with easy swimming for kids and a house reef straight off the beach for family snorkelling.

The Sun Siyam Iru Fushi is surrounded by white sand and blue and green water, and the beaches out the front of each and every villa are perfect for swimming. Of course, if you’re in an over-water villa you can just jump straight in. The house reef is easy to get to, just straight of the beach and we spotted a couple of friendly turtles swimming past too.

We also like a good-sized family or kids pool, and it’s an added bonus if there’s an adults-only pool for much-needed quiet time.

At the Sun Siyam Iru Fushi the family pool is surrounded by jungle palms with hidden seats and alcoves, a shallow roped-off area for smaller children and a waterfall. It’s so much fun for everyone and is surrounded by sun lounges, umbrellas and the Fluid Restaurant & Bar for meals and snacks. The private adults pool on the other side of the island has views over the ocean. The sunset is simply stunning here and it’s the perfect place to relax while the kids are in Kids Club.

And that’s a pretty big consideration for us – resorts need to have a fun and reliable Kids Club where children and go and play with the other kids on the island, do craft, climb and learn. We won’t spend much time at Kids Club but it can be nice to have a child-free break and be assured yours is being well looked after.

Emmie loved the Komos Kidz Paradise and met lovely friends there. The ladies there really care for the children and they do craft and play games and have a fabulous time – they also take excursions like the banana boat Emmie went on with all her little buddies.

The Sun Siyam Iru Sushi has all this and more – like free daily ice cream for kids, organised kids outdoor activities plus a teen area with snooker, books and indoor and outdoor games. There’s also an amazing watersports centre with so many activities, daily excursions and snorkeling and diving tours.

So the kids are definitely happy.

For mum and dad – well for starters the beachside villas are incredible. They feature a huge outdoor bathroom and spa, private beachside pool and cabana and your own private entrance down a jungle-lined path – to what seems like your own private beach.

There are 14 restaurants and bars on the island and the food is amazing. Our favourite was Flavours, an overwater restaurant where we watched reef sharks being fed before feasting on French-inspired cuisine and delicious wine. We also had poolside burgers at Fluid restaurant and teppanyaki cooked on steaming hotplates by the beach while we watched.

There are a number of meal packages at the Sun Siyam Iru Fushi but if you choose not to take them, kids dine for free with an adult at any of the restaurants scattered around the island.

The Sun Siyam Iru Fushi gets the balance just right for families. You can play on the beach together, swim and snorkel or enjoy the family pool. Then if mum and dad need some quiet time the Komas Kids paradise kids club is one of the best with its own swimming pool, indoor and outdoor play areas, craft activities and a nursery for babies.

For a fabulous family getaway the Sun Siyam Iru Fushi is the place to be in Maldives.
