INDULGE MALDIVES recently spoke with Instagram sensation Gypsy Lovin Light (777K), aka the gorgeous Helen Janneson Bense. Helen (Finnish / Australian) and her photographer hubby Bobby Bense travel the world with their two children, creating beautiful imagery in hope to inspire others to awaken and live the life of their dreams. GypsyLovinLight is their travel, style and inspirational blog. Find out just what a holiday in the Maldives looks like for Gypsy Lovin Light . . .

Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with Indulge Maldives Helen. We absolutely love your recent Maldives travels and can’t get enough of your dreamy tropical imagery! We’d love to know exactly what brought you to the Maldives.

My family and I were recently invited to the Maldives to shoot a video for the opening of Grand Park Kodhipparu. We were also invited to stay at Kanuhura resort and were lucky enough to have 10 days to experience both beautiful resorts.

You took a seaplane ride to travel from the airport to your first resort. Was it your first time in a seaplane Helen and what made it such a magical journey?

Yes this was my first time on a seaplane and it was beyond amazing! The views over the atolls are simply breathtaking. The turquoise vista goes on and on and never gets old. After our first sea plane, we also hopped on board a speed boat to our destination and were blessed with a pod of dolphins that joined us along the way. It was a truly magical arrival to our resort.

We can only imagine what a day in the life of Gypsylovinlight looks like in the Maldives…

I love to wake up to the sun rising with a morning meditation. I start my day giving thanks for each moment and whatever is to come. We’ll enjoy a slow family breakfast followed by some play time – snorkelling, supping, bike riding, boating, maybe even a little time on the jet ski.

Our favourite lunch experience was taking a boat to a castaway island, with just our family and dedicated chefs catering to our every whim. We spent the afternoon snorkelling in these pristine waters with rays, sharks, and so many colourful, vibrant fish. Back at the resort it was more fun with the kids – water sports, beach paddleball or table tennis. We ended each perfect day with a sunset beach walk, amazing dinner and some tropical cocktails with the most magical views.

In between all this fun we get creative, styling and capturing the essence and beauty as we go. It is always busy, with very full days, so right after dinner we are all so ready for a good nights sleep.

Describe your ideal Maldives resort wear outfit Helen…

A flowing white silk maxi dress that makes you feel like a goddess as it gently moves in the breeze. Comfortable, light, and elegant.

Yep… That will do it!

On a recent Instagram post, you said ‘Our trip to the Maldives was by far the best experience of my life.’ What made it ever so memorable for you?

It was mostly because our children could experience and share this with us. There was something for everyone to enjoy, so we were all so happy. The natural beauty of the surrounds filled us each day with so much excitement for what to do next!

Your Maldives paddle boarding photos are oh so heavenly. Did you try any other water sports whilst you were here Helen?

Yes, we went jet skiing for the first time and it was awesome! So exhilarating! We also tried parasailing and had a birds eye view of the entire island. It was incredible! For fun with the kids, tubing was a blast.

What’s your number one must-do recommendation for someone holidaying in the Maldives for the first time?

Definitely take the opportunity to ride on a seaplane if you don’t have to already. The island views are something I’ll never forget!

And lastly, tell us…

Overwater villa or private beach villa? Overwater, I love being able to jump straight into the deep water and go snorkelling.

Maldives sunset or sunrise? This one is hard as I love both, but I’m definitely a big fan of the sunsets in the Maldives. The water somehow retains so much of it’s turquoise colour while the sky turns all kinds of rainbow colours.

Maxi dress or bikini?Bikini
Cocktail or coconut?Cocktail
Private pool or excluded sandbank?Excluded sandbank
