1. Fotteyo Kandu, Vaavu Atoll

Widely regarded as the best dive site in Maldives, Fotteyo Kandu is situated on the eastern side of Vaavu Atoll. renowned by scuba divers, photographers and marine biologists alike, this narrow Maldivian channel features caves, large overhangs and swim-throughs filled with yellow soft coral and even black coral at deeper levels. Sight reef sharks, tuna, groupers, snapper, white trevally, eagle rays, hammerhead sharks and dolphins.

2. Kudarah Thila, South Ari Atoll

Suitable for intermediate divers, this marine protected area is one of the best dive sites in Maldives and is the most popular within South Ari Atoll. Kudarah Thila features a small reef full of soft colourful corals and abundant fish life. Be sure to use your dive light to explore two large overhangs on the eastern side of the – highlights include the huge fan corals & yellow daisy corals. An archway is covered in additional soft corals and the waters here are filled with snappers, turtles and the occasional reef sharks.

3. Manta Point (Hukuru Elhi Faru) South Ari Atoll

Is a protected marine area with year round sightings of Manta Rays. With a depth of 12 – 25m manta rays submerge from the depths of the ocean into the shallow waters, to use the cleaning station to rid themselves of unwanted parasites. Manta’s wing measuring 3-4m across. Napoleon wrasse are also frequently sighted in the area as well as whale sharks.

4. Kuredu Express, Lhaviyani Atoll 

Popularly renowned as one of the best dive sites in Maldives, Kuredu Express in Lhaviyani Atoll gets its name from the strong current that flows through the site’s channel. With depths from 5-30metres, sandy bottoms and outer reefs, scuba divers can expect to encounter jack fish, reef sharks, eagle rays, tuna, stingrays and barracuda. 5. Hanifaru Bay, Baa Atoll – (Snorkelling only)

UNESCO World Biosphere, Hanifaru Bay is one of the only places in the world snorkellers can watch a feeding frenzy of up to 200 manta rays feeding at a time. The natural phenomenon takes place between July & November each year, during the south-west monsoon season. Ocean currents cause the enclosed bay to become plankton filled right after the high tide occurs. The feeding frenzy can last up to 2-4hours, with mantas spinning plankton into a spiralling vortex. Whale sharks are also sighted inside Hanifaru Bay during this time of year. Scuba diving at Hanifaru is prohibited due to environment & sustainability laws.
